The future of Bridlington Hospital was debated on Tuesday
& Wednesday, 11th & 12th February 2003 when top-ranking health
chiefs visited the town.
Representatives from the Royal Colleges of Physicians, Surgeons and G.Ps
held two days of meetings at the Bridlington hospital with Trust Bosses,
staff and local groups.
Bridlington Councillors, watchdogs from East Yorkshire Community Health
Council and members of the Pensioners Action Group East Riding (PAGER)
were also quizzed as part of the review.
The meetings, were requested by the Royal Colleges in order to gain more
information about the hospital's current situation, following concerns
about service cuts at Bridlington Hospital. Afterwards, the college members
will give their views to the newly formed Clinical Strategy Project Group,
which was set up to overlook the development of the hospital's services
over the next few years. The Clinical Strategy Project Group was formed
after concerns about the night-time closures of Bridlington Hospital's
Minor Injuries Unit, the threats to its Maternity ward, and the investigation
into the Scarborough Trust's misreporting of waiting list figures.
The Scarborough Trust have never made the findings of the above meeting
public although copies of the report have been requested by Councillors
and our very own M. P. The Rt. Hon Mr Greg Knight, what as the Trust to
hide we ask??
Councillor Mrs Doreen Clark as requested a copy of the report but her
request seems to have fallen on deaf ears.
We believe the Royal College of Physicians gave a good report to Bridlington
but the Trust obviously don't want us to see this or they will be committed
to spending money on the Bridlington Hospital, thus insuring its future.
Another meeting is planned by the Royal College of Physicians and will
be held on Monday, 16th June 2003 at the Bridlington hospital, were the
visit will once more look at what is going wrong at our hospital.
It would be nice if we were all invited, to find out what is the plan
and the future of our hospital, because no-one seems to tell you until
cuts are made.
We would like to ask the Scarborough Trust, what they mean by closing
the Maternity services at our hospital at certain times, these times have
not been discussed yet and another bombshell is expected, evasive action
will be on the cards.
