Latest News The Minor Injuries Unit "WILL" open from
Tuesday, 1st July 2003 The Save Bridlington Hospital Campaign would sincerely like to welcome all the new staff & Nurse Practitioners to our beautiful well equipped Bridlington Hospital and wish them every success for the future, we support you 100%, good luck. Stephanie Harrison, Nurse Manager for medicine for the Scarborough & North East Yorkshire Healthcare NHS Trust, said staff were delighted the Minor Injuries Unit's doors were opening once again at night. She said: "Reopening the M.I.U. 24 hrs shows the commitment to Bridlington Hospital & we are pleased to have managed to do it". There is more good news for patients, as Bridlington Hospital has been praised for its treatment of Heart Attack Victims. The Royal College of Physician's latest study on how hospitals across the country perform when dealing with people suffering heart attacks shows a big improvement at the town's hospital. The report says the time taken by its cardiac monitoring team to treat patients brought in with chest pains with clot-busting drugs meets national standards and is quicker than many other hospitals in the region. It comes 18 months after a damning report by the Commission for Health Improvement, which criticised the hospital's coronary monitoring unit for 'providing a service that was verging on unsafe. Scarborough Hospital, where many patients from this area are sent for treatment, was also praised in the report for its quick response times. Dr Robert Clark, consultant physician cardiologist for Scarborough & North East Yorkshire Healthcare NHS Trust, said: "The coronary care personnel have made a huge effort in developing and working on a system that would provide the speedy, professional and effective treatment of heart attack patients." "It is very much a team effort, from the
Ambulance & Paramedic personnel, to the nurses, junior doctors and
consultants." Amicus the Union held talks with the Health Trust top brass, representatives of Amicus met with chief executive Alison Guy at Scarborough Hospital to express worries over the cuts to services that had been made recently, Geoff Whitlow, Amicus National Officer said: "The meeting was set-up to discuss the future of Bridlington & District Hospital and to seek reassurances that the hospital was to develop and improve its services for the public and the future." Amicus will work with the Trust on matters which concern our members. "These are service improvement, job security and providing continued and improved healthcare for the people of Bridlington." He added that Mrs Guy had said the meeting was constructive
and useful. The Rt. Hon. Mr Gordon Brown M.P. (Chancellor) raised income tax to high light the problem within the NHS because reform stated it required investment, to date no money as been seen in this area? The concerns I have raised with Mr Tony Blair (Prime Minister) should be look into and not over looked as is happening at this present time, his ministers should look into problems and give assurances that investment will be made. I will keep writing to Members of Parliament until someone listens and takes notice, the Save Bridlington Hospital Campaign will keep on fighting for the future of the Bridlington & District Hospital until all as been achieved and its future is secure once more. Mick Pilling (Chairman) Save Bridlington Hospital.
