BRIDLINGTON X-RAY DEPARTMENT GETS HUGE REFURBISHMENT!

Hospital patients will soon benefit from a £600,000 investment in diagnostic X-ray equipment.
The X-ray equipment installed when the Hospital opened 17 years ago is to be replaced as part of the ongoing capital replacement plan.

NEW DENTAL ROOM

In March 2003 an additional X-ray room was created and state of the art Dental Equipment was installed. This reduced the waiting times for those patients requiring Dental X-rays.

NEW GENERAL ROOM

In July 2003 a second new X-ray room was installed. This room was to be used for general X-rays such as Chest, Spines and Limbs.

Judith Golding; Superintendent Radiographer said, "The machine is much smaller than the previous one and much easier for us to move around, because of the advances in technology".
The main benefits are for the patient. The camera can move round the patient, and the X-ray table can be lowered so that patients who have difficulty moving around can get onto it easily. The room is used for the majority of our patients and covers referrals from the Minor Injuries Unit, Outpatients, General Practitioners and the Wards.
The staff received specialist training to use this new equipment and have been overjoyed by its ease to use.

BRIDLINGTON GOES DIGITAL

The third phase of the project will start on the 11th August 2003 and last for about 8 weeks.
This new room will include Digital Fluoroscopy X-ray Equipment. This is different from the other machines as instead of taking a static image it will take a video image that can be seen on a Television Screen.

This room will be used for specialised procedures such as Barium Meals and Barium Swallows. The staff have worked hard to keep disruptions to a minimum during the massive refurbishment. Alternative arrangements have been made to minimise the effect on the services provided. The staff would like to thank Patients, Carers and Services users for their ongoing support and patience.
