Amicus Union & Health Bosses Talk!

National Union Officials have given Bridlington Hospital the thumbs-up after travelling from London to discuss the future with Health Chiefs. And after a day of talks, union bosses at Amicus say they are well pleased. During their whistle-stop visit, they met staff, consultants, local councillors and chief executive of Scarborough & North east Yorkshire Healthcare NHS Trust, Alison Guy. The union's national officer, Geoff Whitlow, said: When we came to Bridlington Hospital last June, we were given certain assurances things would improve and that certain procedures would be set in place. That as now happened, and in particular, the minor injuries unit has re-opened and things are looking quite positive. We wanted to dispel all the negative rumours about hospital closures, and we have done that. No one thought the hospital would shut, we were more concerned with looking after services. He added: "Talks between the union and the Trust will continue to be ongoing and everyone is very pleased about that". Labour Members of East Riding Council, Councillor David grange & Councillor Doreen Clark, also met union officials. Cllr Grange, who is also Mayor of Bridlington, said: We were quite happy with what we heard. The Trust's (3) year plan to get rid of the debt of £11.7m and keep services running is the only way forward. The Trust seem to have got things stabilised and we have been assured that no service will be lost, which is exactly what we wanted to hear. The Bridlington Hospital now has a new manager, Sue Wellington which the Save Bridlington Hospital Campaigners reported earlier this month, Sue is now in place and she is very positive. Sue Wellington plans to get to know staff by going to work in each department. An Amicus member said: The Trust has respect for us now and seems willing to listen, which is why it was important to get our national leader to speak on our behalf.

Save Bridlington Hospital Campaign

Since the: Save Bridlington Hospital Campaign was launched back in October 2002, Bridlington Hospital as got better because of talks between, Trust Officials, Unions, Councillors, MP's, other groups etc have also added pressure, we firmly believe this is the way forward, the S.B.H. will continue to forge ahead and maintain our hospital's future, and hope we never have this problem again. A fund raising Raffle which is on-going at the moment will ensure the future of: The Save Bridlington Hospital Campaign Group. Further talks by: Mick Pilling (chairman) of: Save Bridlington Hospital and The Rt. Hon. Greg Knight MP will take place on the 19th September 2003, when Mr Knight will be brought up to speed with on-going events and the recent meeting between, S.B.H. & Trust Officials on 29th August 2003 when the Trust categorically stated that the Bridlington Hospital will not close now or in the future which was music to our ears. This campaign is to secure the future of Bridlington & District Hospital, our health is Paramount! Our welfare must be look after, our pensioners must be treated with dignity at all times.

We would thank: Bridlington & District, People, Residents, Businesses, Factories, Shops, Councillors, Newspapers etc for there wholehearted & continued support whilst this campaign as been going on. We would also like to reassure everyone our campaign and efforts will not be in vain, our campaign will continue until we think all is well, which may take some time or years?
