YET ANOTHER SET-BACK FOR BRID/HOSPITAL?? DAY-CARE CENTRE!

The Save Bridlington Hospital Campaigners are always at the ready for the antics of the: Scarborough & North East Yorkshire NHS Healthcare Trust, now Gilly Collinson; Communications Director as just informed certain people of the next set-back to hit Bridlington & District Hospital and it has been met with utter dismay and contempt after recent talks by the Save Bridlington Hospital Campaigners Monday 1st September 2003 with the Trust’s Chief Executive Alison Guy, Medical Director Dr Ian Holland & Personal Manager Duncan Henderson when they categorically stated no more cuts were in the pipe-line, now we hear of another cost saving exercise to save money, to reduce the £11.7m of Debt the Trust as, who will be hit this time?

Day-care Centre, Bridlington & District Hospital, why, the Scarborough & North East Yorkshire NHS Healthcare Trust want to save money, never mind the care and the welfare of the elderly, they will just pass that to some other department, either Social Services or District Nurses, most patients who attend Bridlington Hospital for treatment are very happy with the nursing staff who are very experienced and the tremendous self satisfaction on meeting others in a similar circumstance to them-selves.

The Day-care Centre performs many tasks to the 12,000+ patients who pass through there department in the last 2 years, fears are that nurses in the Day-care will end up on the wards etc and the Day-care Centre will be put on a 2 day a week, this is ludicrous and reprehensible, some of the patients that pass through this department are aged from 70 to 90+ yrs has we keep saying health is Paramount, don’t take this service away, keep it on 5 days a week increase services facilities and secure its future for the community.

The Trust have given one version type statement on the lines of; we are looking at the services of the Day-care Centre but no definite plans have been made and discussions will be made in December 03 after the Trust’s Steering Group meet.

Well I can tell the Trust’s Steering Group now that the Save Bridlington Hospital Campaigners will pull out all the stops to prevent this travesty from happening.

The usual scenario that follows these outrageous statements is to contradict it later, which the Trust as done already, there is only one confident statement in place? “Watch the Scarborough Trust very carefully and fear the worst”

A Peaceful Protest will be put into action in due course and Television (BBC & Yorkshire TV) the Media & Local Radio Stations will be invited, leaflets will be distributed and a strong turn-out will be expected, our MP the RT. Hon. Greg Knight as been informed and e-mails have now been sent to all Councillors in the region.

Staff at Bridlington Hospital has reacted with anger over these possible plans to close the Day-care Centre 3 days a week.

Workers in the day hospital claim they were told last week that, from January 2004 the unit would only open 2 days a week, what will happen to the patients? Fears are many will not receive the correct treatment or get the treatment they now receive.

Going to Scarborough Hospital by Ambulance or by other means is bad enough but after treatment, long waits and inconvenience, guess what? You have to find your own way home, if you’re in time you can get a bus, this will take you all around the house and you will get home sometime possibly worse for wear, your other option, get a taxi this will set you back around £18.00 to £25.00 depending on the time of day.

The other option is to ask the Duty Nurse for a NIPPY TAXI because the Scarborough NHS Healthcare Trust as a contract with them, you will be told sorry we can’t get you a taxi because the Trust is £11.7m in debt, that is not your fault, you have over the years paid your dues into the NHS, you have been taxed weekly all your life when working now the system is letting you down very badly.

The reason you have ended up in Scarborough Hospital is down to the Scarborough NHS Healthcare Trust who have reduced services here at Bridlington Hospital’s Minor Injuries Unit, there are no Doctors on duty from 5.00pm to 9.00am next day so if you have anything more than a cut finger chances are you will end up in Scarborough hospital, chances are you will be paying for that privilege by having to get a taxi home, it’s high time the Chief Executive: Alison Guy organised transportation in a much simpler way and instruct her staff under certain circumstances transport will be arranged for people on low-income, income support, disabled, one-parent families and the elderly, you know it makes sense.

New Labour, New Policies same old lies, were is the money promised by Labour for the NHS; you’ve taken the income tax to pay for the services now would you be so kind as to deliver, thank you.
