The Ambulance service managers say it is not cost viable or cost effective. What utter rubbish, putting a price on life once again. The £38,000 Fully Equipped Rapid Response Volvo V40 Estate Ambulance that is based here in Bridlington at the Bessingby Road, Ambulance Station, approx three weeks ago its service was with-drawn, no-one within the Town of Bridlington was notified, which I feel is very underhand to say the least, we then find out this Rapid Response Ambulance is parked up and not in service, why, we are told its not cost affective and it may well be taken away to be used in some other area, also various statements by TENYAS are all text-book quotes nothing concrete in support of there actions. Jayne Barnes, CBE, Chief Executive of Tees, East and North Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust (TENYAS), as not yet replied to E-mails sent to her office on Friday 21st November 2003 Remarks from TENYAS Management are through Media: · The Car a £38,000 Volvo Estate V40 fitted with life saving equipment (Rapid Response) as temporarily been withdrawn from service and parked up now for almost 3 weeks plus? · Officials have declined to reveal how many call-outs the R/R car has received? How many lives have been saved? This would prove its viability! What are they hiding? · Where are, those staff now, which drove this (Life Saver) they must now be on a rota at Bridlington Ambulance Station? · Temporarily withdrawn while its viability is analysed? What rubbish some people talk! This comes from pen-pushers and bureaucrats. · Manager “Alan Peart” said: the Rapid Response Vehicle was never part of our core rota and was manned as an additional resource. We find that hard to believe after 10/11 months! It must have part of some rota to be accountable? They would include this vehicle in there Government Target figures. · Management and Directors should be held accountable? Whilst this Fully Equipped Rapid Response Ambulance is parked up its life saving ventures have creased; what is it coming to when money comes before life; it’s disgraceful, ludicrous & despicable. This ambulance came into service to help the many people who suffer: Heart Attacks, Life Threatening Illnesses and Serious Road Traffic Accidents it can also negotiate rural roads within our region much better than a standard ambulance. The comments coming from TENYAS management are not in any way constructive, reassuring or fitting for what they have done withdrawing this service. The Ambulance Service have a duty to inform the town where they operate so people are aware of the situation and can make alternative arrangement. This Rapid Response Ambulance came to Bridlington amidst a great deal of publicity in 2002 were it was never stated it was a short term venture, it is only now that the Ambulance Service TENYAS have moved the goal posts to suit themselves; the truth is (cost) “putting a price on life” TENYAS should be wholly ashamed of there actions. To save face we firmly believe that TENYAS should make a statement and re-instate this ambulance forthwith! It’s a disgusting state of affairs. Our slogan is: “GIVE IT BACK” If a Petition is required so-be-it! Yours truly; Mick Pilling Chairman: Save/Support Bridlington
