A Major Safety Issue

To All Councillors;

A Major Safety Issue

From: Monday 5th January 2004 at mid-night Bridlington & District Hospital’s Night-porters were reduced to one man from 2 which as always been; for 3 months I have tried to get answers but management have not replied to e-mails etc; it has once again been done under-handed; also we have no security staff at Bridlington Hospital this as also been passed onto Porters; we believe this is a Major Safety Issue and should be treated as such and an investigation be sought immediately; we were told that car-park charges introduced last year would be used for CCTV; Security, porters and groundwork; money destined for these issue as gone into the big pot as we thought would happen; is this another cost saving exercise; yes we believe so; management once again not accountable is the cry from many; details have been passed onto the Rt. Hon. Greg Knight MP at a recent meeting I had with him on the 19/12/03 and he is constantly up-dated if we allow this to continue what will happen in the 24 Minor Injuries Unit at Bridlington will Nurses be expected to open doors to drunks and drug addicts late at night because the porter is too busy been on there own; they have a multitude of jobs to do at night and a very large hospital to maintain? Every time we have a meeting with the Trust and all is ironed out they start again with there confounded cuts and changes.

This Major Safety Issue must be dealt with as soon as possible; it as been imposed behind a wall of secrecy by management unaccountable once again.

I am appalled at this unacceptable behaviour once again.

What has happened to the: Code of Conduct for NHS Managers?

1. To reassure the public that these important decisions are being made against a background of professional standards and accountability

2. The public are properly informed

3. Managers will be honest and will act with integrity and probity at all times

4. "I will seek to ensure that" The best interests of the public and patients are up-held in decision-making.

It seems the Trust have forgotten the code of conduct.

Kindest regards Mick Pilling
