Patients will receive some television stations free and radio stations but others will have to be paid for. It is hoped it will be completed by the end of 2004 The scheme aims to make patients feel at home It costs £1.5m to install the equipment in a 500-bed hospital. Every bed will have a digital television and radio, with interactive movies, Internet access and e-mail, computer games and a personal direct-dial phone. Private companies will fund the scheme by charging for some channels and phone use. Some hospitals will use the system to access patient records electronically at the bedside. The Yorkshire Wolds & Coast Primary Care Trust is in discussion with private companies to provide a similar scheme in Hornsea and Withernsea Hospitals . |
