Dramatic Birth with a good ending

This story relates to a couple who live in Bridlington; Mr & Mrs Mark & Rosemary Sheppard of Longleat Avenue, Bridlington.

The birth of there son Jack who weighed in at 7lb 2oz a brother for Isobella the couples daughter.  Jack was born at 1:10am on Monday 19th December 2005.

But reading this story you will find all was not well; for Rosemary had to give birth to their new son Jack on the sofa in the front room because of Cock-up's with the Maternity Services which the Save/Support Bridlington Hospital Campaign Group have been fighting for the past few years.

Here is the Dramatic story as it un-founds; two days earlier Mark & Rosemary had battled through snow and ice driving the 20 miles each way to Scarborough Hospital but were sent away because staff said the baby was not on the way yet?  Mark & Rosemary returned to Scarborough Hospital the very next day once again travelling the 20 miles each way on the East Coast Roads which is heavy with traffic at times; once again they were told by staff they were too early?

Then within hours of arriving back home in Bridlington.....Jack arrived! Mr Sheppard said: I was screaming down the phone at the 999 operator; the ambulance got to there home within 10 minutes and the baby had been born; fit and healthy.

Mr Sheppard would like to thank the emergency services in Bridlington for arriving so quickly - despite the snow and icy condition.

The morale to this winter's tale is time your delivery; Monday to Thursday 9am to 5pm it is essential in Bridlington!  Scarborough Hospital should have considered the weather conditions and distance and possibly monitored overnight for the safety of a mother and baby. I think the NHS needs to look back to provide the service we all deserve for the future. To recap: Bridlington Hospital's Maternity Unit has the Wards, Beds, Equipment as well as Excellent staff and Mid-wives the experience to deliver all babies....our main problem is the Scarborough NHS Healthcare Trust who will not inject cash into Bridlington?  Our problem now at Bridlington is midwives ; some of whom are unfortunately leaving for more secure jobs elsewhere.

The couple were put under excessive stress and feared anything could have happened
