4 Minor Injuries Units closed in the area of the East Yorkshire overnight ?

Good morning to Chief Executive Jane Barnes of TENYAS;

Hello Jane;

Are you aware at present we have 4 Minor Injuries Units closed in the area of the East Yorkshire overnight ?

Bridlington Hospital  from 04/09/06 9pm to 9am;
Withernsea Hospital (MIU) from 15/05/06 5pm to 9am;
Hornsea Cottage Hospital from 5pm to 9am
Driffield's Alfred Bean Hospital 25/03/06 9pm to 9am.....

This is certainly very unfair to the public & patients who require these services.....most have to travel between 20 and 40 miles to the nearest A&E, call an ambulance or go by other means i.e. friend or taxi as there is not a Bus or Train service at night; we believe this is a tremendous strain the the existing ambulance service in this area

I am very concerned with the number of Ambulances in Bridlington who daily respond to emergencies in and around this area, this is a densely populated area with a large rural area; population of approx 44,000+ also at this time of year all the caravan sites are full and with visitors etc; it is not unknown for there to be as many as 100,000.

We are constantly aware of the number of ambulances who are coming from Scarborough with Blue's & Two's sounding as they continue to meet demand in this AREA!  On one day alone 3 Ambulances were noted to come from Scarborough within 15 minutes?  Each ambulance as to travel approx 20+ miles to A&E at Scarborough and return the same way; ambulances cannot be released from A&E until the patient being dispatched is safely in the hands of the medical staff.  These dedicated Paramedics then have to take there lives in there hands to get back to Bridlington travelling along the deadly coastal roads.

I would be very grateful if you could supply me with the actual Response times for this area alone?

I have received many reports of ambulances being called in from Filey, Whitby, Driffield & Beverley as they struggle to meet demand. We have 2 Ambulances on duty by day; but this is reduced to only one at night?  We know that response time figures are fudged and that in the past response times have not been met!  We are also aware that figures are shuffled around and all areas included to give an overall figure of excellence; I would be very grateful for the truth, should I receive it.  I look forward to your reply in anticipation

Kindest regards Mick Pilling....Fighting for a better NHS for all!
