Planning Bridlington Hospital's Future

On Wednesday, 26th February, 2003 members of the Scarborough Healthcare Trust & Primary Care Trust (P.C.T.) hold a workshops meeting to discuss the future running of the Bridlington & District Hospital, the meeting was attended by: Dr David Wigglesworth, Alison Guy, Dr Ragan Madhok, Dr Jeffrie Strang (director of public health & medical director for Scarborough, Whitby & Ryedale P.C.T.), Dolly Richardson (chairman of the East Yorkshire Community Health Council) & Adrian Smith (chief executive of Yorkshire Wolds & Coast P.C.T. Trust).

Also in attendance was approx 65 residents and campaigners, to discuss the future running of the Bridlington Hospital.

Although the discussion have been held as yet we have seen no changes at our hospital, so we say to the above Officials "talk is cheap" lets see the hospital flourish you now know what the people and residents of Bridlington want.

Can I tell you Ian ; this was the last we heard about this; nothing was done! Promises were made, consultation meant nothing, what you hope to achieve with your consultation the people have heard it all before; we are aware decisions have already been made at your board meetings in Scarborough......your consultations are to get peoples ideas and to fudge over the real issues, we believe...if not many people bother to fill in forms etc then it smooths the way for your sweeping changes that will affect everyone's lives with health problems.

You sir; are all about saving the Scarborough NHS Trust vast amounts of money and to; in the future; make sure the Trust do not over spend.....we feel you are a type of time and motion or today's expression "A Hit Man"! Brought in to make extreme cuts at any cost with the full support of the Government.  When you are finished we firmly believe you will disappear to another hospital and start again...we also do not believe you will stay in situ.

Further to the above could you tell me what you have actually done since taking over Bridlington Hospital......we know you have revamped the hospital theatres; but this is not for us; this is because you are having extreme and exstensive work at Scarborough to the theatres there; so it would make sense to use bridlington.... We have seen little or no progression in Bridlington since you came to power?
