Staffing levels at Bridlington Hospital NOT acceptable

At the recent meeting held at Bridlington Town Hall 30/01/07 several Nurses and staff raised the issue of staff shortages and staffing levels on the wards @ Bridlington Hospital saying staff were short and most nurses were doing more than 2 jobs to keep the hospital running; it seems the Trust don't care; the Trust are on a cost saving mission to reduce the £7.2m debt and it is firmly believed that the Scarborough NHS Trust are running the Hospital at a dangerously low level to bring into play Health & Safety Regulations... This can of course close wards and may do if drastic steps are not taken now; they are trying to close wards now with the consultation doc. The 3 month Consultation Doc; Dec 06 to March 07 is paying considerable attention to; Acute Medical Services & Cardiac Monitoring Unit with Wards Kent & Thornton in the firing line?  These ward staff levels are believed to be at an all time LOW ....with staff morale at an all time low level also; what about the patients, this troubles me deeply; we should be looking into this, at this very moment.

The Minor Injuries Unit was closed because of staffing levels Health & Safety Issues played there part?

I have learnt today 1st February 2007 that staffing levels at Scarborough Hospital are also low and that overtime as now been granted to staff at Scarborough but NOT Bridlington hospital?

As a loyal campaign fighting for staff and patients at Bridlington hospital; I am extremely concerned about what issues these Nurses raised at the meeting..... The nurses stated that some of the staff were working so hard they were burnt out; other staff said they do not have time to care for patients as they would like to because there is so much to do and not enough staff? Interim Chief Executive Iain McInnes at the meeting when confronted by this; did not seem to answer these nurses claims; more than one nurse raised the issue.....I hope this Media; Television & Radio pick-up on this issue before life is lost as a result of staff shortages; the trust are out to save money and this is there only focus. It is TRUE that the Scarborough NHS Healthcare Trust have banned all overtime for the foreseeable future; also there is a ban on advertising for staff; junior nurses cannot get jobs; these would be ideal at Bridlington to relieve stress, staff shortages & sickness! It was also reported by Nurses at the meeting that some staff have been taken to Scarborough to work due to there shortages?

Please give this your immediate attention

I am meeting the Rt. Hon Greg Knight MP at a pre arranged meeting to discuss this problem and many more Friday 02/02/07

Sincere & kindest regards Mick Pilling
