Letter 1 - Written by Mick Pilling on behalf of Graham Baverstock

I Mr Mick Pilling; write this letter for and on behalf of: Mr Graham Baverstock of 16 Kent Square West Hill Bridlington; his email address [email protected] his telephone number is 01262 609235; his Mobile is 07719386130. Mr Baverstock has given his full permission and authorisation for me to write on his behalf; as he seeks justice for himself and many others.

When he was a child at the age of 14/15 years of age; he was in a home at St Williams School, Market Weighton where he was RAPED by a priest on many occasions and systematically abused this case was proved recently and went to court; it has left Graham very scared, depressed and very angry!

He now has the following illnesses tested & proved by Doctors and specialists supported by Councillors

  • Osteoporosis
  • Osteo Arthritis
  • Raynard's Disease
  • IBS Irritable Bowel Syndrome
  • Diverticulitis
  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease – Problems breathing doing the slightest thing
  • He also has to use a Catheters to pass urine; this is painful and very hard for him
  • Low Blood Pressure he suffers light headedness and dizziness
  • He is Completely Wheelchair bound and I cannot get about on his own; he needs help!
  • He now has another bladder infection called e-coli the last time all this happened he spent 6 months in hospital at a cost to the tax payer of approx £52,000 it could be avoided with 24hr care.
  • Graham always feels cold and needs heating on his heating bills are approx £350 a ¼

He had a full care package in place by Social Services until they robbed him of his care and now he has to sleep in his excrement and endure night sweats where his sheets become soaked and his pyjamas are soaked; he has to lay in these until help arrives; he frequently gets bed sores and infections but Social Services and the East Riding of Yorkshire Primary Care Trust (ERYPCT) wish to kill him off; because he is very out spoken.

He has to live a life like an animal believe me; animals are treated better; if an animal was to be treated in this way there would be public out-cry.

This is what society does to you; they make the ill suffer to the point of acute depression; causing Graham to try and commit suicide; he has taken pills and cut his wrists; he is at his wits end.

Social Services have told that many lies; they do not know what the truth means anymore as long as people who are ill like Graham suffer; Social Services are unaccountable; they move the goal-posts and the extremely ill and vulnerable suffer; at 49 Graham has a life to lead but committed to living like an animal; someone please take this very sad story on board or next you may read his obituary? He needs a life-line.

This letter is accompanied by a reference letter of proof; from one of Graham's previous carers who explains fully, Graham's needs on a day to day basis.

Graham has no care from Friday night to Monday morning; this was removed due to cut-backs; he then has to sleeps in his wheelchair at weekends and this makes his bed sores/wheelchairs sores a lot more aggravated where Graham then has difficulty sitting due to extreme pain; due to his osteo arthritis and osteoporosis he is unable to get into and out of bed on his own, he needs help.

Graham is unable to cook or boil a kettle for a hot drink etc due the above and the fact he could scold himself unable to grip.

The Social Services suggested to Graham because he is unable to get to the toilet and has to use a catheter why doesn't he get a 20 metre tube to reach the bathroom; also why can't he use nappies at night, then he could lay in a nappy full of Pooh until his carer comes next day; this infuriated Graham and he told them where to go. Graham finds it extremely difficult to insert his catheter with one hand and hold a jug in the other due to illness; he has reported this many times but this falls on deaf ears.

Graham has lost much weight, at least 2/3 stones and some days if not all he looks extremely un-well; at weekends he makes do with a sandwich if hungry and a couple of cans of Coca-Cola. He is not getting the right nourishment; hot meals, hot drinks, and vitamins; taking all this into consideration he is been failed by the system; the very one we have all paid into; what is wrong with the UK we seem to be going back not forwards; the Government cut-backs are causing no end of problems for the sick, ill and the very people it should care for.

I has a human along with many others are disgusted by the treatment Graham Baverstock is receiving; must he die for someone to pick up this case and look into it; we hear so many times the old phrase; “Lessons have and must be learnt” lessons are never learnt, when we tell our stories no one listens; then the press tell the story and people are disgusted; but its still happening, this is a typical case of abuse by the systems; it makes me sick to my stomach; someone please, please do something about this mans way of life. Throw him a lifeline; give this man hope that people do care especially the Government!

Graham has all the proof that the Social Services & PCT lied in court; he has contacted the ombudsman etc but nothing seems to happen; the above are hoping Graham will go away or die so the case would then become closed and the guilty parties would not have to hide and could breath a sigh of relief.

Previous letter to Government Departments have proved Fruitless??? (Why) doesn't anyone care?

I am asking for the following leaders of our Country to explain how this is able to happen in the 21st century under their care; all Graham gets is buck-passing are the following going to do the same; or will they stand up and be counted and treat this man/human with dignity.

Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Tony Blair PM MP Labour

Health Secretary the Rt. Hon. Patricia Hewitt MP Labour

Deputy Leader the Rt. Hon. John Prescott MP Labour

The Rt Hon. David Cameron MP Conservative

The Rt. Hon. Greg Knight MP Conservative

Yours truly,

Mr Mick Pilling for and on behalf of Mr Graham Baverstock

As we seek justice and care for Graham Baverstock NO stone will be left uncovered; Graham needs care or he will most certainly DIE at a very young age; in pain, discomfort and feeling abused by the system; thrown out and left to rot!!

All of Graham Baverstock 's files; proof and information can be found on my Website: www.savebridlingtonhospital.co.uk under Newsletter – thank you

Letter from Graham's previous Carer

15th February 2007

NVQ Care Assessor

Subject Mr G Baverstock Date of Birth 9 -3 1958

Dear Councillor Tress,

Further to our recent discussion regarding Mr Graham Baverstock care needs,

I would like to add my comments about the necessity for night care and weekend cover.

I had been employed as Mr Baverstocks' carer for numerous months when his full time carer Mrs Hogg had been off work due to illness. During this time with Graham I came to the conclusion and discovery that his full care needs have not been addressed by Social Services.

At times when Graham has had no care and been left alone, I have visited Graham and found him in a state of neglect i.e. unshaven, unable to get up and dress himself. Not able to maintain his own cleanliness. He has also gone without food and hot drinks, as he is unable to attend to these matters due to his inability to perform these tasks because of his lack of mobility and disabilities.

When attending to Grahams' catheters, he needs assistance to hold the jug whilst he is inserting the catheter because of arthritis, raynuards which cause him considerable pain and discomfort so is unable to hold anything steady himself. So when no one is in attendance urine is passed on his clothing and or bedclothes. Also

I have on several occasions found faeces in the bed clothing and found that Graham has been crying with distress and I have had to reassure him not to be ashamed as I would attend to his needs. Also Graham is prone to getting bedsores due to being in contact with faeces, but also his skin is very thin in the sacral area.

I am fully aware of Grahams past and the severe trauma of sexual abuse and in fact he is still being abused now and until his care needs are fully met then I can only foresee that his health will rapidly decline. So please try and stop the abuse of his person, as this should not be allowed to continue in this day and age.

Whilst looking after Graham he was often awake at night in severe pain and quite often I had to assist him out of bed and help relieve his pain which I am trained as a qualified therapist. Many nights Graham had disturbed sleep due to the above.

I also wish to stress that Graham is not safe to use any kitchen appliances and equipment because of his lack of strength in his hands and his unsteadiness to perform these task that an able bodied person could carry out.

Any exertion by Graham leads to coughing and a shortness of breath which leaves him exhausted and then he needs to rest for a while whilst he recovers.

Over a number of years I have looked after many persons with different disabilities.

And my experience tells me that Graham needs both day and nighttimes care and without the above he is being placed at severe risk and his safety is being compromised through lack of care needs.

If I can be of any further assistance in the future, please feel free to contact me at the above address.

Yours sincerely

Stephanie Metcalfe
