Cigarette Butts litter the Bridlington Hospital due to lack of Staff? |
Good morning Mr Ian McInnes Chief Executive Scarborough NHS Trust; 1st March 2007 This is my second letter; From Mick Pilling I had reason to attend the Bridlington Hospital on 2 days last week one to do an interview regarding staff shortages and twice to visit Mr Baverstock. I have also been to the hospital this week nothing as be achieved and nothing cleaned? It boils down to staff shortages. When I arrived at the Main Entrance I was met with Cigarette Butts in there Thousands ; they are literally everywhere; some had trailed into the hospital; I believe this to be a safety hazard; disgusting and not a suitable advert for a Healthcare Hospital cigarette butts carry germs; saliva and stain. It is very unhealthy for patients arriving and leaving it also gives the hospital a very bad name. Your recent cut backs have meant the there are not enough porters or ground staff to clean these areas; the entrance is littered with butts etc and do get carried on the soles of shoes and on wheels of trolleys? In the past there were large stone ornamental pots to which visitors, patients and such could put there butts; the removal of these has created a disgusting habit of throwing them against the hospital walls etc and putting them out under foot. I believe that the hospital manager Sue Wellington should take this in hand immediately has a very serious issue; this area as been like this for many, many months. It has been criticised by reporters; media etc but still nothing as been done???? I find this totally unacceptable; this is a hospital not the back yard of a Public House? Whilst we appreciate it is a no smoking area and this area carries signs; there will always be people who need a cigarette; people who receive bad news; people who are patients; people who think they have a right to freedom in the open air. Yours truly Mick Pilling |
