FLAMBOROUGH PARISH COUNCIL LETTER TO HEALTH MINISTER
|
Dear Mr Johnson; Proposed Ward Closures and 600 Redundancies – Scarborough & NE Yorkshire NHS Trust. At a recent meeting, Flamborough Parish Council agreed to write to you with outrage, disgust and strong objection to the proposals currently being considered by the Scarborough & NE Yorkshire NHS Trust to close wards, pull out services from Bridlington Hospital and make 600 NHS staff redundant. This is not what the community wants. Please would you respond directly with the Parish Council and give us and our community the answers to the following: 1. What will happen to us when we require urgent medical attention and the nearest hospitals are one hour away ( Hull and Scarborough ) and roads to both hospitals are blighted by bad weather in winter and an influx of visiting tourists in the summer? We think that members of our community will die. What do you think? 2. How will the remaining two thirds of NHS staff cope – they struggle to cope now. We think they will be stretched too far and probably end up requiring hospital care themselves. What do you think? 3. How and where will the members of the community receive the hospital treatment they require including emergency care, maternity services and cardiac monitoring? 4. How will the ambulance service cope as they are already overstretched? 5. How has the Scarborough & NE Yorkshire NHS Trust been allowed to get so far in debt without this being identified a long time ago and stopped long before now? 6. Is the health and welfare of the community not important, or is it just the money? 7. Please would you intervene to stop this piece by piece destruction of our hospital and valuable services that are so highly needed in this area? We would appreciate meaningful and direct answers both from you and the Trust and not to be fobbed off with meaningless consultation processes that have obviously wasted everybody's time. I hope to hear from you at your earliest convenience. Yours sincerely Clerk to the Council Cc |
