Dear Mick Greg has asked me to drop you a line.  He has passed on a message for you as follows:-

'As I am sure you know, the Trust has now abandoned its plans to shed 600 jobs.  Although this is good news, significant uncertainties still remain about the future and in particular over the range of services that will be available in future at Bridlington Hospital.    In addition, it has been revealed that the debt of the Trust has not been written off but has been ‘parked'.  What on earth does this mean?  It could mean we will face the threat of more job losses in the future.  In the light of this, we cannot say the problem has been resolved and I intend to go ahead and still have my meeting with Alan Johnson.  The Trust may have satisfied some people by this announcement but I remain concerned and unconvinced.'

If you obtain any inside information from staff at Bridlington hospital about further problems, Greg would welcome hearing from you.

Regards Teresa Secretary to Greg Knight MP

ORGANISED BY THE PEOPLE - FOR THE PEOPLE

Dear Mick,

My dear friend in light of the grave news in your Email I am sure that this is not to be the last of the bad news that is going to decend upon us in this area I feel we must really start and fight as a group from the whole area or they will continue to divide and conquer by picking us off one at a time. As am sure your campaign is going to step up a gear so is ours, I am sure that the pack of lies told by Macinnes yesterday will only get him off the hook untill the next lie.

SCAREMONGERING

At a meeting of the Southern Area Forum Mr Macinnes accused staff and campaigners of “scaremongering” he also stated “there's no need to ‘save our hospital' because no-one's taking it away”.

He went on to say “the way we deliver some of the services will be different but the impact on the population will not be that great”, he further stated “some types of surgery might have to be performed elsewhere but that was for patient safety and government policy.

The most noticeable point he also made was that “We've already got £5million in savings which has had no impact on services”.

As the Founder and Organiser of the ‘Save Scarborough Hospital Campaign' who as a campaigning group apparently have more understanding and respect for the hospital staff than he has I would like to take Mr Macinnes to task on a number of points.

Approx four weeks ago he stated in the Sca Eve News “we have to make savings and repay a debt of up to £28million some of these savings must come from staff and services being reduced and this could mean the loss of up to 600 jobs” within days the unions stated “this loss could be more like1,000 jobs” and Mr Macinnes concurred, In retrospect and now being in a position of having the full facts only 50 jobs to go and only £10.5million to repay would he like to reconsider exactly who is doing the ‘SCAREMONGERING it was not the staff or campaigners that issued these figures Mr Mcinnes IT WAS YOU SIR!!.

Regarding the statement he made on delivery of services and some surgery being performed elsewhere, having spend many hours each day whilst collecting signatures for our petition and talking to members of the public in scarborough the impact of the cuts is already with us and bound to deteriorate further and unless the 100s of people commenting to us regarding the cuts to services effecting them and surgery being moved to hospital's many miles causing difficulty in visiting and incurring great financial cost for travelling away are liars (which I very much doubt) then Mr Mcinnes's statement is grossly understated WHY?.

Now let's get to the nitty-gritty of the savings, at the meeting Mr Mcinnes stated “we have already got £5million in savings”, within hours a further statement from Mr Macinnes say's “we have identified £8million of savings” where has the extra £3million suddenly appeared from? Could it perhaps be some petty cash popped in to the back of his desk draw and forgotten about? Or is our Mr Mcinnes now practising his magic act by pulling ‘£3million out of a top hat? With his dexterity in making things disappear and reappear I feel it must be the latter as anyone who can miraculously take £28million debt and 600 job losses disappear one day and the following day make them reappear as only a £10.5million debt and 50 job loses he is surely one of the worlds top magician's and should he ever require a new vocation I am sure the magic circle would be glad of his services for his undoubted slight of hand and his financial prowess.

In conclusion I hope that like myself the rest of the long suffering public in scarborough will not be taken in by this long running ‘now you see it –now you don't' troupe of wandering magician's who are currently in charge of our hospital and health services, probably until it disappears into a top hat never to reappear.

Our fondest regards to you all Sandra & John

Hi Mick

Please check via Internet nhs re the newly appointed finance strategic planning for bridlington Hospital history Clarke.  She was in the same position down south doing the same job but got into greater difficulties than is at present in BRIDLINGTON hospital very poor management skills and i am informed she had to leave her post down south but is appointed to bridlington doing the job that she has already failed in doing despite informing the community where the post was that she would still be in post next year. Your right about keeping your eye on things she will soon fail at bridlington and Management will blame the next cuts will be blamed on her and not that they lacked the ability to check out her track record to date.

Dirty tricks abound around bridlington HOSPITAL

Terry

Hi Mick;

Attention:news and health editors

Six Hundred Jobs At Scarborough and North East Yorkshire NHS Trust Saved

Unite, Britain's biggest union welcomes the announcement that 600 jobs at Scarborough and North East Yorkshire NHS Trust have been saved. The Strategic Health Authority have reached an agreement with Scarborough and North East Yorkshire NHS Trust to  'park' the historic £20 million debt. As a result , the proposals to cut the workforce by 600 have now been dropped.

Unite Regional Officer, Terry Cunliffe says, "This is exactly what Unite have tirelessly lobbied for. We are extremely pleased that the Trust agrees with us and we can now concentrate on improving services , without the huge threat of job cuts hanging over the staff and the Trust." "There are still problems which need to be addressed, particularly at Bridlington hospital but this announcement is a significant step in the right direction."

Dear Mick, you probably saw this, but in case you missed it....what a dreadful tale, and what a fate lies in store for all of us with these PCTs and medical directors.  Barbara English

Hi Mick

It gets worse !!!

What are we to expect next ??

Keep up the hard work.

Best Wishes

Barbara Jefferson

Mr Pilling, Iain McInnes has confirmed his attendance at the Council's meeting next Tuesday evening (7 p.m.) at the Town Hall. I was recently monitored for a night on the Thornton Ward at Bridlington Hospital and overheard nurses talking about another ward (I didn't catch the name) in the hospital having been staffed the previous night by only one person.

Regards,
Christopher S Smith
Town Clerk
