Unite the Union Joined – the Save Bridlington Hospital Campaign Action Group who are leading the fight & Campaign to Save Bridlington Hospital

The Save Bridlington Hospital Campaign Action Group and Unite  are at the forefront in the fight to save vital services at Bridlington hospital.

Problems have been ongoing at Scarborough and North East Yorkshire Trust due to an historic debt of £28m but even after Unite lobbied the government to park the debt the Trust announced plans to close the Cardiac Monitoring Unit and two acute medical wards at Bridlington Hospital. Unite has consistently said that these plans will put patients lives at risk, as they will have to travel further, 18 miles to Scarborough hospital, for emergency treatment.

Unite Regional Officer, Terry Cunliffe, said: "Staff at Bridlington are distraught. We believe that the closure of these wards and the Cardiac Monitoring Unit will put patients lives at risk. “Unite is outraged and will continue to campaign vigorously to keep these services at Bridlington and to prevent Bridlington from being downgraded." Join our rally and voice your support. Join our rally on Saturday 20 th October from 10.00am and fight Trust plans to remove vital services from Bridlington hospital.

Starting point: Bridlington Business Centre, rear of Morrison's,  Bessingby  Way, Bridlington and finishing at  Bridlington Hospital. It's our Hospital.

Let's pledge our support

The March says Mick Pilling Chairman of Save Bridlington Hospital Campaign Action Group, was a huge success with 2,000 to 2,500 people taking part, they came in wheel chairs, invalid carriages, on crutches to take part, people line the route, the Fire Service and Ambulance Services sounded horns in support, cars tooted horns in support, the March-Protest-Rally was about (1) mile long; when the front was in the hospital the rear had not started; the Police were marvellous in patrolling the roads, people said the feeling of most was a overwhelming and brought a tear to the eye.  the atmosphere was astounding, you had to be there to feel this presence.  There were Flags, Balloons, Banners, and whistles everywhere.

Lets all hope now the Scarborough NHS Healthcare Trust take notice of this Protest, the people have spoken in volume and strength.

The people are saying clearly "Leave the Cardiac Monitoring Unit and Acute Medical Services alone",

WE NEED THEM IN BRIDLINGTON.....IT'S OUR LIFE-LINE.

Mick Pilling
