Save Bridlington Hospital Campaign Action Group Moves to PHASE 2 in its fight for CMU

We now move to Phase 2 of our campaign to Save the (CMU) Cardiac Monitoring Unit at Bridlington Hospital also Acute Medical Service the Scarborough NHS Healthcare Trust want to remove the 6 bed CMU and one ward of the Acute and take them to Scarborough.

We are now asking and urging people everywhere to write to our MP the Rt. Hon. Greg Knight who has a planned meeting with the Health Minister Alan Johnson on the 28th November 2007; Mr Knight's plans are to take all the letters written and all the emails sent and present them to Mr Johnson in the hope Mr Johnson can get the Scarborough NHS Trust to reverse its decision and keep all services in Bridlington.

Story one; I would now like to highlight the sad death of a visitor to Bridlington who was with his wife in the Market Place, Old Town part of Bridlington on Saturday 20th October 07 at 2.00pm.  Hours after the biggest protest march in which thousands took part a man in his 50's died of a Heart Attack because he had to wait 20 mins for an Ambulance to come from Scarborough after two 999 calls; passers by tried frantically to save the mans life as he went into Cardiac Arrest; the Ambulance had to come from Scarborough because there were no Ambulances available at the Ambulance station sited only a mile away.  This once again highlights the need for the Cardiac Monitoring Unit to stay in Bridlington.

Story two: Another person who waited 30 mins for an Ambulance was a teenager with her friends who attended the Bridlington Fair last week, Ms Jennifer Day daughter who was on one of the rides was injured, she had been knocked out, hurt her wrist, back and neck and needed an Ambulance, this time the Ambulance was called in from Driffield. The police called the teenagers parents who managed to get there with 5 minutes. There were no ambulances available in the Bridlington area, when the ambulance finally arrived the teenager was placed on a spinal board and taken to Scarborough, given the all clear some time later and suffering from pain and bruising she was released. Had her parents not been with her she would have had to find her own way home, a taxi can cost as much as £30/£35 per trip.

We are now asking everyone to Write to The Rt. Hon. Greg Knight MP Tell Mr Knight how we need the CMU & Acute Your letter must arrive before 28th November 2007 when Mr. Knght meets Alan Johnson Health Secretary....
