NEWS FLASH We now call for the Resignation of Scarborough Trust & Board | |
I sadly believe that now we need to tighten the screws on them by stating that we are not going to advise the public to continue to volunteer to partake in what can only be described as euthanasia due to the trust being unfit for purpose. As we have received a large number of replies from people who participated in the recent Protest-March-Rally on 20/10/07 some 2,500+ Marchers and also filled in the on-line questionnaire we have only one thing to say. We now call for the Resignation of the Chief Executive Iain McInnes, Dr Ian Holland, Gilly Collinson, Duncan Henderson, Chris Coombes, and all Board Members. All letters and Questionnaires returned to us have now been forwarded to; The Rt. Hon. Greg Knight MP to hand over to The Rt. Hon. Alan Johnson MP (Health Minister) when Mr Knight meets Mr Johnson in November 2007 to discuss the Scarborough NHS Healthcare Trusts decision to remove the (CMU) Cardiac Monitoring Unit and Acute Medical services (1 ward to be removed) the Town Councils vote of NO CONFIDENCE in THE SCARBOROUGH NHS TRUST still stands; the people of the Town of Bridlington have also stated they have NO Confidence in the Trust.
Quote: WARD TRANSFERS AT SCARBOROUGH HOSPITAL 27 July 2007 Routine quality tests performed on two of the older wards at Scarborough Hospital have shown the presence of Legionella pneumophila in the water supplies to Haldane and Duke of Kent wards . Precautionary measures were put in place immediately to minimise the risk to vulnerable patients, and the decision has now been taken to vacate the wards so that the full extent of the necessary remedial work can be assessed. Haldane Ward has already been closed, with patients admitted to beds in other medical wards across the Trust.. Additional beds have been opened on Oak Ward to increase capacity. Is it not true these wards are unfit for purpose, due to be refurbished and brought up to patient standard? Is it not true the pipes in these wards need replacing to protect patient safety and health? Is it not true Patients using these wards should have a signs above the bed "Drinking Water could seriously damage your health or even Kill you! Is it not true the Bridlington Hospital is dated 1998 Fit for Purpose ; has 3 wards that could be opened and staffed and patients would not be in danger; we believe the reason that the Bridlington Hospital is not used is because the Trust are hell bent on saving money; that money is been wasted on Scarborough Hospital; a Victorian Building to which it is unfit for purpose; we receive daily reports of how dirty the wards are and the hospital in general, patients hate to be transferred or taken to Scarborough? We now call for the Resignation of the Chief Executive Iain McInnes, Dr Ian Holland, Gilly Collinson, Duncan Henderson, Chris Coombes, and all Board Members. Let us not forget; when Chief Executive Alison Guy was in-charge she kept a good hospital and did not get ( WEAK ) on all counts..... SHE was SUSPENDED and re-leaved of her job! We Firmly Believe this Trust is NOT fit for PURPOSE and should be removed A.S.A.P. Mick Pilling Fighting for a fairer NHS for all Reply from Iain McInnes Good Evening Mick I am not going to enter into a lengthy written response to you but I am going to attempt to concisely respond to some of your points below. For your information, all substantive Executive Director appointments made to the Trust since April 2007 each and every Director has significant practical experience of managing change. Scarborough & North East Yorkshire Healthcare Trust did not come “ low on all counts and only scored ( WEAK ) on all agendas meaning the Trust and its board members are not fit for purpose and unaccountable”. IN FACT the Trust fully met all core standards; achieved 6 out of the 11 Existing National Targets; under achieving on 1 and failing on 4. Of the 9 New National targets the Trusts achieved 5; under achieved on 2 and failed 2. THIS IS NOT A FAILING ON ALL AGENDAS AS YOU VERY WRONGLY STATE ABOVE in addition I find your statement insulting to our staff who are very committed and work hard to deliver services to patients. In terms of the successful rally on Saturday 20 th October 2007 you personally asked me if I would be attending the rally on the evening of Thursday 18 th October 2007 at a meeting we both attended organised by the East Riding of Yorkshire County Council. In response I informed you I was involved in a family event that weekend. Incidentally, up to the point of you asking the question I do not believe the Trust was formally invited to attend/address the rally. As you know, I, and my colleagues, have attended a significant number of public meetings and will continue to do so. Finally, I believe I have answered all the questions you have asked of me; your email of the 5 October 2007 was replied to on 18 October; I am currently working on the response to your last email received 11.19am on Friday 26 October 2007. It is abundantly clear to all that we have older buildings on the Scarborough site than we do on the Bridlington site; this is not disputed. On occasions that means we have to take extra measures to bring those areas of the building up to a more acceptable standard. For the Duke of Kent and Haldane Ward to be fully utilised as medium/longer stay in-patient wards pipe work needs replacing. This is currently being undertaken on Duke of Kent ward. As part of the work programme to refurbish Duke of Kent ward we have temporarily transferred a number of Stroke Care patients to Bridlington Hospital . We have temporarily opened Haldane ward to assist in managing patient flows through the hospital; further precautions have been taken before re-opening the area to ensure we do not place patients at risk. Opening additional wards on the Bridlington site would not provide the temporary solution we need as Bridlington Hospital does not have the rapid access to a range of diagnostic and laboratory facilities that these patients need, nor does it have the level of 24hour clinical anaesthetic or surgical cover we need. Finally, I re-iterate, the Trust was not rated weak on all counts – far from it. I will respond to your email of 26 October in due course. Regards Iain McInnes Chief Executive Scarborough & North East Yorkshire NHS Trust
