PRESS RELEASE - Meeting with Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) Very Re-assuring

A recent planned meeting with Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) on Wednesday 4th November 09 between Mick Pilling chairman Save Bridlington Hospital Campaign Action Group and Councillor Liam Dealtry Bridlington Town Council went exceptionally well, as we met Jack Ewing, Acting Assistant Director of Operations and Andrew Hepton Locality manager for the Coastal Area in East Yorkshire at Bridlington Ambulance station; the planned meeting was about the recent 3 years of Weak reports by The Care Quality Commission our meeting was to alleviate the towns fears and concerns over the Ambulance provision at Bridlington.

According to the report, Yorkshire Ambulance Service has the second worst response times in the country for 999 emergencies cat A calls and failed to meet a Government target for attending life-threatening incidents within eight minutes.

The Government response times reported were for the whole of the East Yorkshire region, we were assured that Bridlington were in fact meeting demand and covering Bridlington with 5 Ambulances and 2 Rapid Response cars all of whom have on board highly skilled Paramedics and technicians, we were also informed that by the end on November 09 some 53 staff will be on duty at Bridlington, also provisions are in place for all holiday events.

This we firmly believe is very good news for Bridlington and surrounding areas and should reassure residents and visitors that the YAS can cope, should anyone have a problem with an Ambulance situation if the ring Bridlington Ambulance station they can speak to Jack Ewing who will investigate any complaint.

We pointed out at our meeting that the demise of services at Bridlington Hospital had put a significant strain on Ambulance services, the YAS agreed that the removal of; The Cardiac Monitoring Unit, The Maternity Unit, the Surgical ward, the down-grading of the Minor Injuries Unit from 24/7 to just 12 hours a day also in 2010 Buck-rose ward of Mental Health will be closed and removed to Castle-hill, had in fact played a big part in the increase of Ambulance call-outs.

Jack Ewing and Andrew Hepton of YAS have arrange to hold meetings every 3 months with Liam and myself to keep us up to speed with all information regards the YAS in Bridlington, we think this is a first class idea and we can then relay any problems through the Media.

So residents and visitors of Bridlington please feel reassured our Ambulance service here in Bridlington is GOOD!
